first_imgHome / Daily Dose / The Week Ahead: CFPB Updates Congress On Tuesday, March 10, the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs will hold a hearing to examine the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) semi-annual report to Congress. The U.S. Supreme Court heard opening arguments Tuesday in Seila Law v. the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau—a case that could decide the constitutionality of the Bureau. The CFPB was designed to rein in abusive practices in consumer credit marks, such as home mortgages and credit cards. CNBC states it returned $12 billion to consumers between 2011 and 2017 but stopped pursuing enforcement actions under President Donald Trump. The CFPB has been the subject of several lawsuits, most recently by the California-based Seila Law. Seila Law alleges the CFPB’s insulation from presidential control is unconstitutional. The law firm challenged the agency after the CFPB targeted the firm 2017, CNBC states.Kannon K. Shanmugan, attorney for Siela Law, who argues the CFPB was constructed against the U.S. constitution, had a clear message for the Supreme Court.“The structure of the CFPB is unprecedented and unconstitutional,” Shanmugan said. “Never before in American history has Congress given so much executive power to a single individual who does not answer to the President.”He added that by limiting the President’s ability to remove the CFPB’s director, Congress violated the “core presidential prerogatives” to exercise the executive power that laws are faithfully executed.Shanmugan continued his opening remarks by saying the Solicitor General contends that the Supreme Court should rewrite the Dodd-Frank Act, giving the president the power to remove the CFPB’s director.“But the constitutional question, in this case, arises in the context of a defense to an enforcement proceeding and not a facial challenge,” he said. Here’s what else is happening in The Week Ahead:Financial accounts of the U.S. (March 12) in Daily Dose, Featured, Market Studies, News Subscribe The Week Ahead: CFPB Updates Congress Governmental Measures Target Expanded Access to Affordable Housing 2 days ago Related Articles  Print This Post Previous: Seven Major Mortgage Servicing Tech Trends Next: CFPB Proposes Whistleblower Award Program Share Save March 8, 2020 1,090 Views Demand Propels Home Prices Upward 2 days ago Servicers Navigate the Post-Pandemic World 2 days ago Data Provider Black Knight to Acquire Top of Mind 2 days ago 2020-03-08 Seth Welborn Servicers Navigate the Post-Pandemic World 2 days ago About Author: Seth Welborn Governmental Measures Target Expanded Access to Affordable Housing 2 days ago Demand Propels Home Prices Upward 2 days ago Seth Welborn is a Reporter for DS News and MReport. first_imgAs part of the second edition of the project “Meet your country”, the Association of Croatian Tourist Guides and Partners on the occasion of the Day of International Recognition of Croatia,  on January 13, 2019 (Sunday) beginning at 12:00 p.m. to organize free guided tours in all cities where tourist guide associations operate – members of ZDTVH. “We wanted to emphasize the importance of protected sites for the representation of the country and the Ordinance on the list of protected sites (which is still being drafted), which is the only place where our country will be represented only by tourist guides who have been educated in Croatia. ” Kristina Niuć Prka, president of the Association of Croatian Tourist Guide Associations, points out and added that 58 cities joined the initiative this year. Why have other cities, ie tourist boards, not joined the whole initiative so far? By the way, in Croatia we have a total of 555 local self-government units, 428 municipalities and 127 cities. The guides are intended for the local population to get to know their city and become ambassadors of Croatian tourism, but of course to all other visitors and tourists. List of cities and municipalities where free guided tours are organized: Trogir, Split, Solin, Klis, Sinj, Trilj, Dubrovnik, Korcula, Sibenik, Drnis, Zadar, Rab, Opatija, Vepribac, Lovran, Rijeka, Krk, Vrbnik, Trsat, Labin, Rovinj, Pula, Vodnjan, Pazin, Buje, Porec, Karlovac, Zagreb, Varazdin, Slavonski Brod, Lipik, Osijek, Vukovar, Vinkovci, Otocac, Plitvice, Djakovo, Buzet, Roc, Hum, Motovun, Viskovo, Imotski, Cres, Novalja, Krapisnke Toplice, Jastrebarsko, Pag, Bakar, Daruvar, Hrvatska Kostajnica, Nin, Kastav, Sisak. Do we want tourism development or not? Obviously some don’t want to and don’t care. So don’t be surprised afterwards if things stand still. It’s up to the people. In conclusion, this is an extremely important topic, getting to know your city and turning citizens into ambassadors of Croatian tourism. Why other cities, ie tourist boards, have not joined the whole initiative so far, even though it is their “obligation” precisely because of their primary activity and the importance of the topic, and it costs nothing but good will, is a question that all tourism entrepreneurs must ask themselves. of every city. Photo: A great tourist story and a very important segment in the mosaic of our tourism that we have absolutely neglected. The city is the people, so the local people are tourism and the best ambassadors of Croatian tourism. The locals give rhythm and pulse to the destination, and guests want to get to know us and our culture of living, customs, our stories… because that is the very essence of tourism. first_imgI hope no one took it what I said last week about what I think it takes to be a good broadcast announcer personally.  The idea for that particular column came from a discussion during breakfast club one day.  They were discussing why they didn’t like one of the big time announcers on TV.   I listened to that conversation and added my own 2 cents worth to the article I wrote. We are lucky to have local announcers who are familiar with our schools and the athletes.  That makes it so much more enjoyable when you are listening to the games.  I certainly enjoyed my years when I was doing color and play-by-play.DON’T FORGET THE ANNUAL ALUMNI GAME TODAY AT THE BATESVILLE HIGH SCHOOL GYM!last_img
