first_imgThe countdown to St.Patrick’s Day is on and all over Letterkenny people are working on their entries. As one of the biggest parades in the County we are keen to see as many entries as possible.St. Patrick’s Day is an important event in the calendar and the Letterkenny Parade is a great family event each year. Everyone loves to see sporting clubs, dance groups, youth groups, clubs and societies getting involved, making it a fin and lively parade for the thousands of spectators. This year Letterkenny Athletics Club will be holding the inaugural St.Patrick’s Day 5k family fun run/jog/walk along the parade route.Starting at 1.15pm it will attract people of all ages and they are especially encouraging families to take part. There will be the serious runners but this is a fun race to celebrate St.Patrick’s Day. Toni Forrester from Letterkenny Chamber told Donegal Daily, “We were approached by Letterkenny AC and some other interested parties and we thought this would be a great fit with the parade.“Registration, the route and the prize giving will all take place in the town centre on the afternoon of the parade and we would love to see as many people as possible getting involved.“At just €8 per adult and children going free it is a reasonable day out for the family and you don’t have to be athletic to take part as the emphasis is on fun.“An Grianán Theatre is opening specially from 11.30am for registration and the prize giving for the 5k will be at the viewing platform at Market Square just before the parade. The Parade starts as usual at 3pm on Tuesday 17th March making its way from Pearse Road via Port Road, through Main Street past the viewing platform at Market Square to finish in Old Town. On the day the independent judges view the parade with various categories in mind including community, sports, youth, band and dance. Each category winner receives a plaque and the overall winning entry receives the Danny Doherty Perpetual Plaque plus a cheque for €500.To enter a float or for more information contact Letterkenny Chamber on 074 9124866 or email [email protected] COUNTDOWN IS ON FOR THE ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE IN LETTERKENNY was last modified: March 6th, 2015 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:BusinessFeaturesnewslast_img read more
