Gibbs is a native of Maryland while Thomas hails from Australia and Pilipovic comes by way of Germany. Live Audio Graham Woodward, Ore Arogundade, C.J. Rivers, De’Antae McMurray and Nick McGlynn also return after being in the starting lineup for significant portions of the 2016-17 season. Arogundade returns as one of the Valley’s most accurate three-point shooters as he converted at a 40 percent clip last year with 44 made three-pointers, the third-most amongst the team’s behind Timmer’s 55 and McMurray’s 54. As a team, Drake led the Valley in three-pointers with 270 throughout 2016-17, the fourth most in program history.  Print Friendly Version At Drake, he inherits a veteran roster that features five seniors and three others that have spent at least two years at Drake. To that veteran core, Medved has added five newcomers as the new head coach rebuilds the program and roster. Cleary shattered season records for points, field goals and free throws last season. He notched 17.5 points per game and shot 41.8 percent from beyond the arc on his way to All-NSIC Second Team honors. Cleary was also named Division II Bulletin All-Freshman and Hero Sports Newcomer of the Year.The Golden Eagles, a member of the Division II Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) are coming off of an 8-21 season. Saturday’s exhibition marks the second-straight year the Bulldogs have hosted a NSIC foe in an exhibition. Last season the Bulldogs defeated Concordia, St. Paul, 81-75. The Drake University men’s basketball team begins its first season under the direction of head coach Niko Medved who was named head coach March 26, 2017. Medved took the reins at Drake after four successful seasons as head coach at Furman University where he guided the program to back-to-back postseason appearances and was named the Southern Conference Coach of the Year. Anchoring the roster is senior Reed Timmer. An honorable mention All-MVC selection in 2016-17, Timmer has been a starter in each of his three seasons at Drake and one of the top scorers in the league each of the last two seasons. He enters his senior season already ranked in the top 10 in career scoring at Drake with more than 1,300 career points and his 121 career three-pointers rank just outside the top-10 in the Drake annals.last_img read more
